Guess what?!?!!?!??
Hello!
For anyone who hasn't heard from
un_fathomable or
legendofthehawk or any other various beatings of tom-toms, smoke signals, etc... As of February 2, 2005, 5:48 PM...
I made a baby!!!!!!!!!!
His name, for the time being at least, is Evan. 8lbs, 4 oz. of eating power! 21 inches of sleeping frenzy! One impressive specimen, I must say.
He seems healthy. Damn healthy, in fact, and I'm damn grateful for that.
I could go into allllllllllllll kindsa gory details about the birth, but I'm feeling magnanimous, so I won't. I will say, however, that I could NOT have done it without my mother, my boyfriend, and my precious epidural. I think my doctor phrased it best... "When you go to the dentist, he doesn't OFFER anaesthesia." (Alright, granted, childbirth is natural, and having your teeth drilled is not, but... whatever... the point was valid enough for me.) Precious epidural. He slithered right out after that.
The aftermath. Excitement, there. I got to stay in the mom-and-baby ward, so that was nice... I could have the baby with me, and when I couldn't cope, they'd come take him away. It was great!
No, but seriously... it was interesting to get a wee bit of newborn experience. My GOD there's so much I don't know... If I'd been planning on parenting, I'd have been attending classes and whatnot all along. As it was, it was an additional strain, not knowing what to do for him, and feeling guilty when I asked them to keep him in the nursery overnight, etc... again, Mom and Chris were totally indispensible.
So, now, the adoption bits. We're pretty well settled on a family, but it's not totally formalized yet. However, Evan, or whatever his name will end up being, should be placed with them within a week or so. My family and I feel pretty comfortable about them... and we have loads of common interests/experiences, so I'm hoping we'll be friends.
That's all for now.. we haven't developed the pictures yet (yes, we HAVE a digital camera, but it needs a new battery, so hush) so instead, I've uploaded a sketch I made at the hospital. And he's cute enough in it that I'm not gonna lj-cut or apologize for NOT lj-cutting. So there.
